Why book reviews are important for authors

If you’re a writer and wondering the best way to get your book in front of a group of avid readers, book reviews are the way to go!

Book reviews are an important part of the publicity process for writers as book club reviewers (book bloggers and some media outlets) are usually devoted readers who are passionate about literature and would love to share your book with their following.

There are book reviewers for all genres, so do your research and find one who fits your book.

Once you’ve found a book reviewer, review their submission policy. All of them vary, but they usually tell you what types of books they review, the length of time it will take to review, how many copies they require, and whether they accept self-published books (not all do).

Once you have this information, put your best foot forward. In your package include a note to the reviewer thanking them for reviewing your title, along with any promotional items, your biography, and press release.

Allow them the allotted time to review your book and once they’ve done so, be gracious and thank them for their thoughtful review.

Hopefully you’ll receive a positive review that will boost book sales.

Please note: When you submit your book for review you are requesting an honest review. All reviews won’t be positive five star reviews. The interpretation of books are subjective, so be prepared either way. In a later post, I will discuss how to handle negative reviews.

How have you used book reviews to help gain exposure for your book? Please share in the comment section below.
