You just don’t know how good that feels after working really hard. So I’ve had time to write. I am steadily working on my upcoming novel [...]

The Life Of A Writer: Writer’s block. That feeling I get. And the business side.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to blog. Not only could I not find the time, but every time I sat to the computer I’ve been completely jammed up with words. I have so much I want to update you on. So I’ve decided to start off slow…to give it to you a little at a time, until I’m all caught up. Write One Publications is in a good place right now. We’re finding our niche, establishing our brand, and creating relationships. I was so honored to be featured with my mom Bernice Harris on WCIU – You and Me In The Morning. The cameras followed us as I facilitated the Youth Empowerment Workshop at John Hope School. This college preparatory high school has a Brother 2 Brother mentoring program founded by Reginald Grigsby. He assists young men, freshman to seniors, in all things life. So we worked collaboratively to bring the Youth Empowerment Workshop to this school where some of the young men have received full ride scholarships. Now I want to add that this is in an urban community, where there are a lot of adversities in the neighborhood itself. I was so impressed with these young men, because they were attentive, engaged and eager to learn. As I talked, I could just see the words soaking in and the wheels turning. That is the greatest feeling you can have as a sharer of news. I get it here when I receive a comment. I also get it when I’m facilitating writer workshops.

That’s why I do this as a career. That feeling is what propels me forward.

I want to start blogging more on the entrepreneurial side. The business side has been such a learning experience for me. After having worked in corporate america and now taking the ropes and navigating the business world, it has been exhilarating at times and frustrating at others.

I want to talk to you more about that and why my business (as opposed to my writing) has been my focus the last few years. With that being said, here are a few of my upcoming posts:

Marketing and Publicity for the author at LABBX – August 2012

What you need to know about starting your own business.

Writers – Why you are a business.

I’m going to say it again…you need a writing network!
