The Life Of A Writer – My vacation and encounter w/boxer Hector Camacho

I hope you guys were able to catch up on some of the older blog posts while I was away on vacation. I caught up on some much needed rest and relaxation. It was a quick five day vacation but sometimes a few days is all that is needed. I feel so rejuvenated!

My parents, son and I vacationed in Orlando, Florida. I don’t know why we always end up in Florida for family vacations, but it has happened so often that it’s almost becoming a tradition. This year however, we ditched Disney World and Epcot for a trip strictly for resting. We rented a villa that included a full kitchen, living and dining room area and a screened balcony. It was very comfortable for the four of us. I woke up and went to the gym every morning as I do when I’m at home. I planned on blogging everyday but after returning from the gym and cooking breakfast for the family, I wanted to spend quality time with them so I figured I’d resume blogging once I returned home.

We played Wii, watched movies, chatted over smoothies, laughed over breakfast, played cards, shopped and enjoyed nice dinners. We did manage to fit one attraction into our schedule on Friday when we decided to venture out to Wonderworks, an amusement park for the mind as they describe it.

We also had an interesting encounter with boxer Hector Camacho. While sitting in the airport waiting for our flight to board to return home to Chicago, the staff announced that the computer system was down and we couldn’t take off until they received paperwork. All of a sudden here comes Camacho running and waving at the the Airtran staff. He then announced that he’d arrived for the flight and not to close the airplane doors. He was completely oblivious to the fact that all of us were still seated and NO ONE had boarded the plane yet. When he reached the Airtran staff they informed him that no one had boarded the plane and he glimpsed at all of us still seated and he and his girlfriend (wife?) walked off embarrassed.

All of us waiting to board had a good laugh at his expense. We didn’t even wait for him to get out of earshot before we fell out laughing hysterically. He made quite a scene running through the airport announcing he’d arrived for his flight and had caught almost everyone’s attention. It was quite hilarious. We laughed for minutes and retold the story over and over again. I wished I could have captured it on video, it was THAT funny.

After we finally boarded the plane, he straggled on late seeking more attention. He coughed and made loud noises to ensure that everyone saw him. That’s when I thought maybe his little stunt earlier was planned. He was quite the attention seeker….

Well that was my vacation!

That sounds like an amazing vacation. I may be moving to Florida in a few months and I've been there at least once. It's a great place.

Let's see, my vacation plans. The only one I have going on is in a few weeks. I'm going to Kansas City for at least three days to catch up with an old friend and go see a concert. It'll be good to have some fun and leave the book I'm writing alone for that time. :)
